Public buildings Mary Elizabeths Hospital Copenhagen , Denmark
UPB has signed a contract for the design, manufacturing, and installation for the façade of Mary Elizabeths Hospital in Copenhagen, Denmark. It will be UPB’s largest façade to date, reaching 26 500 m2. The building itself will have an area of 56 000 m2 over nine floors and the hospital is also notable thanks to its unique design, allowing the architects to already call it the best children's hospital in the world.
The facade units are impressive, with an average size of 11 m2, and the largest reaching almost 20 m2, thus nearly all of them have unique designs. The built-in blinds are a great feature to provide protection from the sun and excessive heat, while the built-in actuators on the windows allow for ventilation while also maintaining fire safety requirements, all of them connected in an intelligent control system. And the addition of natural stone and corrugated aluminum cladding gives a modern finishing touch to the glazed units.
All the units are produced off-site at our factory in Liepāja, Latvia and are almost completely ready delivered to the site for swift installation. See the video on how skilfully our assembly team are mounting in the facade elements.
The project’s developer Capital Region of Denmark has the ambition, that the Mary Elizabeths Hospital - Riget for børn, unge og gravide will be a cutting-edge hospital that will revolutionize Danish healthcare for children and their families. The project pays close attention to even the smallest architectural details, including the facade, believing that it’s unique design will make a positive difference for the little patients’ overall experience.
